What’s the buzz!  Fund-Raising Spelling Bee for Adults

Friday April 28, 2006  7-9pm at the O'Maley Middle School

Gather a team together and join our Spell Moderator and illustrious panel of judges for this lighthearted, spirited evening. The dollars raised from the “Bee” will go to fund innovative programs and projects in all our public schools through the Gloucester School Connection (GSC), a non-profit community organization.

How Does the Spelling Bee Work?

Within each round, Teams of four (18 years +) will be given a designated amount of time to spell the same word simultaneously. Team members may collaborate on the spelling of the word and the Team Captain will print the word legibly on an erasable whiteboard.  If a Team misspells a word, the Team is eliminated. The last Team to spell a word correctly in a particular round is declared the winner of that round and will come back for a playoff round. The last Team standing during the playoff round will be declared the winner of the Bee. (See official Spelling Bee Rules attached)

How Can You Participate?

1:  Form a Team Simply fill out the enclosed entry form and send it along with your tax-deductible donation of $200.00 payable to the Gloucester School Connection. It pays to register early…once you enter, each person on your Team will receive a copy of “Paideia 2005”, your official study guide for the Spelling Bee.  Friends, neighbors, and co-workers are often happy to contribute as Team Sponsors.

2:  Sponsor a TeamIf you or your organization are not forming a Team but would like to make a contribution to Sponsor a Team for $200.00, please complete the enclosed entry form and send it along with your tax-deductible donation.  Sponsor names will be displayed with your Spelling Bee Team.  Feel free to dress up your Team in creative attire or shirts with sponsor’s logo.

3: Donate a Prize or Refreshment

We hope you will join us for an evening of fun to benefit our school children. For more information, call Darlene Coakley (281-1960) or Linda Rogers (281-1455).
